Amsterdamse Studenten Alpen Club » Najaar Retro weekends

Dear Retro’ers,

On this page you can find all the practical information about the Retro Weekend.

But first: choose one of the weekends to join 🎉 (you can find the entry code for the form in Retro Group Chat)

Retro Weekend 1: 9 – 11 October  Deadline: 30 September 23:59

Retro Weekend 2: 30 Oct – 1 Nov  Deadline: 16 October 23:59

The main departure place is @ USC Science Park at 18:30. We’ll try to be back on Sunday night at USC around 22:00

Food

For Friday & Sunday night dinner is not included. For Friday we expect you to have eaten already. If not, you can bring some food and eat it in the car. On Sundays we normally try to meet somewhere on the way back, to have a quick dinner together. (If you’re a big fan of fries, you’re lucky!)

Included is:

Accommodation

For the Retro weekends, we’re going to the Freyr Bivouac. We’ll be camping, so bring all the stuff you need for that. It can get quite cold at night, so please bring a warm sleeping bag (or extra blanket / liner sheet bag).

When you arrive there, it will be dark. You can just start putting up your tents (quietly!!!). AND we need to break down the tents the next morning because it’s a Bivouac. We’ll set them back up on Saturday after the climbing day. On Sunday morning we take them down again, before having breakfast, so that we can go have a nice climbing day straight after.

What do I bring?

A full packing list can be found on the ASAC site: https://asac.nl/paklijst-weekenden/.

It’s in Dutch, but I’m sure you’ll manage. Most important is bringing all your climbing gear (harness, shoes, helmet, belay device, other climbing gear if you have it). Things that you should also bring is your own cutlery, cup & a plate /multifunctional (lunch) box.

It can be quite cold at night, so bring good warm clothes and as thick a sleeping bag as possible! If there’s something on the packing list that you don’t have, try asking in the Retro Whatsapp chat, maybe someone has a spare you can borrow! For the night game, please bring a headlamp!

If you have a tarp, please also bring it!!!! And if there’s someone with a good camera, feel free to also bring it (at your own risk!)

And also bring a cake!!

General Climbing Ethics

Follow the rules of the climbing area. We will talk you through this on Saturday morning, but a lot of it is common sense. We’re guests / visitors of Freyr. We would love to be able to come here for the following 10000 years and represents ourselves good as ASAC.

There might be other climbers around, it will be a busy weekend with a lot of inexperienced climbers, so don’t do dumb stuff. In that way we can all enjoy the weekend as much as possible!

‘We are all in this together!’

As ASAC’ers we work as a team, which means we help each others! In the form you can choose to do groceries, pay the Bivouac and bring your tents or cars, etc.

Later in the weekend info mail, you’ll see who has been divided to what tasks. Please take your responsibility in that. It’s good to keep in mind that the board & instructors are not there to provide your weekend, we’re all jointly responsible to have dinner on time, depart/leave on time and keep the area clean.

Don’t forget: our lovely instructors are all volunteers

We are so grateful that they’re willing to spend their free time with us on ASAC-weekends. Please listen to them carefully & follow their instructions. The best way to show them your appreciation baking a cake for them 🙂
