Amsterdamse Studenten Alpen Club » Retro weekends
The main departure place is @ USC Science Park at 18:30 on Friday. We’ll try to be back on Sunday night at USC around 22:00.
Dinner on Friday and Sunday is not included.
On Friday, we expect everyone to have eaten before departure. If you haven’t had time to eat, you can bring something to eat in the car.
On Sunday, we usually try to stop somewhere along the way home to have a quick dinner together. (If you’re a big fan of fries, you’re in luck!)
Included is:
Breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. When having breakfast, make sure to pack some lunch for yourself! Don’t forget to bring a lunch box.
For the Retro Weekends, we’ll be staying at the Freyr Bivouac. We’ll be camping, so make sure to bring everything you need for a night outdoors. It can get quite cold at night, so bring a warm sleeping bag, or an extra blanket or sleeping bag liner to keep yourself cosy.
When we arrive, it will already be dark. You can start setting up your tent as soon as we get there, but please do so quietly!
Important: Since we’re staying at a bivouac, we need to take down our tents the following morning. After our climbing day on Saturday, we’ll set them up again. On Sunday morning, we’ll take them down once more before breakfast, so we can head straight out for another great day of climbing!
A full packing list can be found on the ASAC site: https://asac.nl/paklijst-weekenden/.
The most important thing is to bring your own climbing gear, including your harness, climbing shoes, belay device, and any other climbing equipment you have. You can borrow a helmet from ASAC, but you’ll need to bring your own other gear or try to borrow it from a fellow Retro’er.
If you don’t have any camping equipment, try asking around! The same goes for anything else on the packing list that you might be missing. Ask in the Retro WhatsApp group, someone might have a spare you can borrow!
As mentioned above, it can get pretty cold at night, so bring plenty of warm clothes and the warmest sleeping bag you have.
For the night game, please bring a headlamp! If you have a tarp, please bring it along, too! And if you have a good camera, feel free to bring it along (at your own risk!).
Please respect the rules of the climbing area. We’ll go through them together on Saturday morning, but much of it comes down to common sense.
We’re guests at Freyr, and we want to be able to keep coming back for the next 10,000 years! Let’s make sure we represent ASAC well.
A few things to keep in mind:
There may be other climbers around, and it will be a busy weekend with lots of inexperienced climbers. So please be sensible, look out for one another, and avoid doing anything reckless. That way, everyone can enjoy the weekend as much as possible!
As ASAC’ers, we work as a team, which means helping one another out!
In the registration form, you can indicate whether you’re able to help with groceries, pay for the bivouac, bring tents, provide a car, and so on.
Later, you’ll receive a weekend information email with the task assignments. Please take responsibility for your assigned tasks!
Keep in mind that the board and instructors aren’t here to organise every little thing for you. We’re all jointly responsible for making sure dinner is ready on time, we leave when we’re supposed to, and we keep the area clean.
We’re incredibly grateful that our instructors are willing to spend their free time with us on ASAC weekends.
Please listen carefully to them and follow their instructions. One of the best ways to show your appreciation is by baking a cake for them! 🙂
If you need to cancel, please do so at least 7 days in advance. If you cancel later, you may have to pay half or the full weekend price, depending on the circumstances. For more details, please check the ASAC Weekend Regulations.
You can find more general information about ASAC weekends and their costs here: https://asac.nl/weekendinfo-algemene-informatie/.
The price for this weekend is (T.B.A.), excluding the one-time Belgian climbing card and/or climbing insurance.
If you’re bringing a car, you can claim reimbursement for fuel costs afterwards by filling in the form on the ASAC website.
